There are many perspectives on WWII and the attack on Pearl Harbor, but few, debated in the public arena, have included Hawaii's civilian population preparations for disaster prior to December 7, 1941. Honolulu Prepares for Japan's Attack, is one of few publications to address this little discussed aspect of the war years. Author and Pearl Harbor Survivor, Dr. Rodney T. West, outlines the era with keen insight and admiration for the civilian population, who worked tirelessly in partnership with the Red Cross and other agencies for more than a year, to prepare the for diasaster and attack.

The book, and this site, seek to to honor the work of many civilian realists, who did their best to convince the city and territorial government that Hawai‘i was a primary target for an enemy attack, especiall by the Japanese. Their efforts were a constant uphill battle. These same people were those instrumental in "cleaning up" the aftermath, yet their work never received the earned acknowlegement and kudos.

The book specifically lists events in chonological order to help the younger generation to understand the true scope of the attack on Pearl Harbor and its effects on the local population. In the development of the site, we are working to mirror this format.
